Sidney de Redder was born in May, 1806, the son of Matthew de Redder, who ran a butcher's business, and Dorothy Annie De Redder. Sidney joined the High School in October 1910 from St John's Higher Grade School, South Shieds, and left in July, 1912, to become a Chartered Accountant. In 1916 he signed up with the 25th Northumberland Fusiliers for four years, and he served at the Battle of Albert where, in June 1916, he was wounded in the leg. After the war, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and became a partner in the firm "Carrick, de Redder and Co." in London. Sidney was a civilian in WWII and was staying at the Queen's Arms Hotel in Kilburn High Road on 26-Sep-1940 when the hotel was hit by a German bomb, killing at least 14 people. Sidney was injured but died later 2-Oct-1940 at Paddington Hospital. |
